Exciting, challenging journey to owning a home
Let's talk about a journey that's as exciting as it is challenging - moving from renting to owning your very own home. Imagine leaving everything you know behind in your home country, arriving in Winnipeg, and being filled with dreams of making this place your forever home. That's exactly what my family and I did.
Our journey
We're a tight-knit family who landed in Winnipeg three years ago, greeted by the warm smiles of my sister's family at the airport.
Finding a home
We settled into a cozy two-bedroom apartment that was just perfect for us at the time. Our kids' school was a mere two-minute walk away, and my sister's family lived just two floors down.
Settling in
It felt like home from the start, with our kids bonding closely with their cousins and loving their school.
Bigger home
As time flew by and our kids grew, my husband and I began the search for a bigger home in November 2022. Our son was gearing up for high school, and our daughter was stepping into middle school.
Thanks to a close friend, we found a realtor who became our guide on this home-buying adventure.
Sure, there were hurdles – like our initial mortgage application falling through and worrying about pulling our daughter from the school she loved. Yet, we kept our eyes on the prize, and by March 2023, we were moving into a 1,300 sq ft 3-bedroom detached home.

It wasn't all smooth sailing; missing the easy visits with family and adjusting to new routines was tough.
But then came the silver linings: space for a grand Christmas tree, a basement for the kids to hang out, and enough room to host gatherings and create countless new memories.
